Hey from CCI!

Here’s a quick update from Carolina Cast Iron and what’s been happening around the shop this month.

This past month has been a busy challenge.

We’ve been spending a surprising amount of time on engraving! It took a while for the engraving we offer to take off, but now that it has, it doesn't seem to stop. As soon as Chris is done with one engraving, we get an order for a new one. It's a great problem to have!

Even when things are quieter, we’re focused on keeping every piece consistent, functional, and built to last.

As yall know, we live in the South. The last big snow or winter weather we had was in 2018. If you missed our social media post, it basically sums up what we've had to deal with in the month of January.

Cast Iron Tip of the Day

Cleaning & everyday use

Clean while your pan is warm, NOT HOT!
Never shock your cast iron with water while it's still hot. This could lead to cracking. But if you wait until it's warm, food releases more easily, and it helps to protect the seasoning.

Skip the soak.
Cast iron doesn't like long soaks. If water sits in it too long, it'll start to rust. A quick wash and dry is all it really needs. We like to dry our cast iron by setting it back on the stove and turning on the heat until all the water has evaporated. Then add a thin layer or CCI's seasoning balm.

Soap is ok!
A small amount of soap won't hurt your cast iron. Just remember, you don't need to scrub aggressively. Use something like chainmail, steel wool, or a scrub brush.

Dry immediately!
Cast iron needs to be dried immediately after washing to prevent rust.
